For the second time on the trip, we awoke in total comfort. I think maybe even if you plan always to camp, it might not be a bad idea to treat yourself to a hotel here and there, even if you don’t need it. We took full advantage of the sun coming through the windowContinue reading “Day 11: Four countries, one day”

Day 10: To Splügen Pass and beyond
We awoke to a cool but already sunny morning in the camp. Bert had the smart idea to set up our tent in between as much shelter as possible, so we didn’t get too much wind battering us in the night and I think that made a big difference. For those interested, the holiday homeContinue reading “Day 10: To Splügen Pass and beyond”
Day 9: Leaving Como and starting the ascent

I’m not talking about a drizzle or even a normal rainfall; the heavens had opened up and were pounding down upon our tent, with strong winds to match. Eventually, I needed to empty my bladder and brave the storm. I ran toContinue reading “Day 9: Leaving Como and starting the ascent”
Day 8: Lake Como

We are on the mountain
We were doing better than expected, so we went up half-way on the Splügen Pass and camped. Now it’ll easier tomorrow. Also, some nice Italian couple invited us in and cooked for us. Totally awesome. More details later. Tomorrow, we will finish going up and then go down the other side!
Things I miss from the other side of the Alps
But I’ll be back soon! ❤️
Preparing to meet the Alps via the Splügen pass
The hardest part of the trip by far (and the crowning achievement) will be our journey over the Alps. Besides worries about sustaining long rides over two weeks, my main worry is about making it to the top of the Splügen Pass. I chose Splügen because we had to cross somewhere and I thought thisContinue reading “Preparing to meet the Alps via the Splügen pass”
